What Floor Finishes are Suitable for Electric
Underfloor Heating?

The vast range of specialised underfloor heating products available from Uheat means that we have a product suitable for nearly all floor finishes, providing the underfloor heating is installed correctly.

Solid / Stone Floors

Tiled Floor

Stone floor tiles or stone flooring have the lowest thermal resistance of all flooring types, which makes it ideal for use with underfloor heating, especially in high heat loss areas.

Ceramic Tiles:

Ceramic Tiles are ideal for use with underfloor heating because they benefit from being great thermal conductors, and are therefore ideally suited to use with a Uheat underfloor heating solution.

The superior thermal conductivity allows the heat to pass through the tiles quickly and efficiently, combined with having good heat retention properties. This means you need less energy to achieve that warm floor feeling for longer.

Porcelain Tiles:

Porcelain tile is an extremely aesthetically pleasing and hard-wearing floor tile that enhances the look of any room.

Much like Ceramic or Stone, Porcelain Tiles are excellent thermal conductors and are ideal for use with a Uheat underfloor heating solution.

Slate:

The natural beauty of slate provides a floor covering to behold. Though like other natural stone surfaces, they can feel cold underfoot. Slate is a great thermal conductor and will work perfectly with a Uheat underfloor heating solution.

Travertine:

One of the most used stones in modern architecture for flooring is Travertine. Like other forms of ceramic floor finishes, Travertine stone is a good natural conductor of heat which makes it highly suitable for use with Uheat underfloor heating systems.

With so many types and styles of Travertine stone available throughout the UK, please make sure that your chosen Travertine is suitable for use with underfloor heating with your flooring supplier before purchasing.

Recommendations:

For stone / solid flooring, Uheat recommends the Elektra MD heating mats or the Elektra VCD17 heating cable.

The addition of a good insulation board in conjunction with any stone surface also means that any heat loss down into the base floor is minimised.

VCD 17 - Electric

The Elektra VCD Cable is installed in rooms which are under construction and the floor is not finished. It generally serves as primary heating and is the only source of heat in the room. When it serves as a supplementary heating source ("The Warm Floor Effect"), a primary heating system is required. The Cable is installed on top of a insulation using either a staple or a fixing strap to secure the cable until the screed is laid.

Carpet

Carpet Floor

A popular cosy floor finishes whilst offering one of the best heat releases.

Carpet allows heat to pass through its fibres very easily as long as the base of the Carpet is not felt or polythene and not a good thermal insulator as that will reflect the heat and make it difficult for heat to diffuse.

The TOG rating should not exceed 2.5tog.

Recommendations:

Existing Screed, Plywood, Wood, OSB

For an Existing Screed, Plywood, Wood or OSB we would recommend the FloorTec range.

The addition of insulating underlay adds an extra layer of heat loss prevention to the screed. The insulating underlay traps the heat and stops it from dispersing through the sub-floor, allowing you to get the most out of you're uHeat underfloor heating system.

Floortec

Floortec Mat - Electric

Floortec utilizes the Elektra 140w WoodTec mat and a 2 layer overlay to create a solid foundation for carpet or vinyl flooring to be installed.
